Long Beach Gives is our city’s annual online giving event that provides an easy and fun way for our entire city to give together. It also provides Long Beach nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure and start relationships with new donors.
Our goal is to inspire individuals and businesses in our community to come together to make a difference in the exemplary work of the 150+ local, participating nonprofits. The success of Long Beach Gives last year helped raise awareness about nonprofits and the critical role they play in our community. We surpassed our $1 million fundraising goal and raised over $1.7 million for the 150+ participating organizations.
Long Beach Gives is returning on Thursday, September 23, 2021 with a $2 million goal and 200+ participating nonprofits making a difference in Long Beach!
Long Beach Gives started as a graduate school project of Julie Meenan, Executive Director of the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation (JSGF). With the support of the JSGF Board and in collaboration with The Nonprofit Partnership, a Steering Committee was formed in March 2018. Early founding organizations included: Long Beach Community Foundation, The Rudolph J. and Daphne A. Munzer Foundation, The California Endowment, The Earl B. and Lorraine H. Miller Foundation and the Arts Council for Long Beach. Along with the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation, these foundations guided and supported the creation of a new online, citywide, fundraising effort.
After a successful inaugural year in 2019, raising over $871,000 for nearly 100 nonprofits, Long Beach Gives, returned in 2020 with over 150 participating nonprofits and 1,197 peer fundraisers, for the 24-hour giving day. Long Beach donated generously in support of the nonprofit sector. The success of Long Beach Gives last year helped raise awareness about nonprofits and the critical role they play in our community. The $1 million fundraising goal was surpassed and over $1.7 million was raised for the mission-critical work of nonprofits making a difference in Long Beach.
Nonprofits are critical to the community now more than ever. Whether you’ve attended local arts or music events, received legal support or health care services, adopted a pet, or enrolled your child in a special after school program, chances are high you’ve interfaced with a dozen or more groups. Long Beach nonprofits have continued to: offer safety net services; find new ways to interact with our youth; advocate for positive change; strengthen mental health services and provide access to the arts as we navigate a new normal. By donating through Long Beach Gives you help to ensure they endure so that our communities can count on them in the months and years to come. Without local nonprofits working tirelessly to fulfill their missions — everyday — our community would look and feel like a very different place.
Long Beach Gives returns for a third year with a two million dollar goal in support of 150+ nonprofits that make our community a more vibrant place to live, work, and play. The online giving day campaign will help people find, learn about, and easily donate to causes they care about. The goals of Long Beach Gives are to raise awareness about nonprofits and the critical role they play in our communities, and to inspire people to give generously to nonprofits, creating a strong community where everyone can thrive.
