Alamitos Bay is our living classroom, our place of discovery, and our home.
For nearly 30 years, Algalita has called Long Beach home. Today, some of our most meaningful work is happening right outside our door, in the waters of Alamitos Bay.
The Bay is where young people paddle out for the first time and discover what's living beneath the surface. It's where students collect plankton, investigate microplastics, and learn to see their local environment differently. And through our program, Clean Bay Collective, it's where community members are testing water quality, observing wildlife, tracking environmental change, and building a shared understanding of the Bay over time.
We believe the people who live here should have a role in understanding and caring for these waters.
That's why we're bringing together young people, neighbors, educators, and scientists to learn from Alamitos Bay. Through hands-on education, community science, and long-term monitoring, we're asking questions about how the Bay works, how it's changing, and how what we learn can guide meaningful stewardship and restoration in the years ahead.
This Long Beach Gives, we're raising $10,000 for Alamitos Bay.
100% of every donation made through our Long Beach Gives campaign will support Algalita's work in and around the waters of Alamitos Bay—from the Clean Bay Collective and youth field experiences to scientific equipment, community events, stewardship, and future restoration efforts.
Your donation doesn't just fund science.
It puts the tools of science into the hands of the community.
It helps a young person look through a microscope and discover an entire world in a drop of Bay water. It helps a neighbor collect data from a place they've walked past for years. It helps us build a record of this ecosystem over time—and turn what we learn into action.
Alamitos Bay has given us an extraordinary place to learn, explore, and discover.
Now we're investing in its future. And we're inviting Long Beach to do it with us.
