Petals & Thorns

My name is Lumina Salinas, I am a licensed cosmetologist who has been working professionally since 2014. My journey into this work came long before I even stood behind a chair, it began when I became a young mother at 18 years old. 

At that time, I was still finding my way. Like many women navigating early motherhood without a clear roadmap, I faced significant challenges. I experienced postpartum struggles and battled with alcohol and substance use, and encountered legal issues that could have easily altered the course of my life. There were moments where i was simply trying to survive. 

What changed my path was support. 

I did not overcome those challenges alone. I leaned on programs, community, and people who saw potential in me even when I struggled to see it in myself. Through that support, I was able to rebuild my life, recommit to my goals, and ultimately align and step into my purpose. 

Hair became more than a career, it became a form of healing and expression. 

Behind the chair I discovered that transformation is not just physical. It is emotional, psychological, and deeply personal. I have spent over a decade helping women see themselves differently, restoring confidence, and creating a space where they feel seen, valued, and empowered. That experience has shown me that when a woman begins to believe in her own worth again, everything in her life can shift. 

The Petals and Thorns Collective was born from this understanding. 

This program is not just a professional vision, it is a reflection of a shared experience. I know what it means to struggle, to make mistakes and carry the weight, and to feel disconnected from our own identity. I also know what it takes to rebuild with the right support, guidance, and opportunity. 

Women who have experienced incarceration deserve more than services, they deserve connection, dignity, and someone who understands. 

Petals and Thorns exists to meet women where they are, honor both their strength and story and support them as they step into a new chapter of their lives. Through Beauty, Wellness, and community care this program creates space for healing, restoration and transformation.
