Celebrating 73 years, the Long Beach Museum of Art is an anchor institution where art, community, and sustainability intersect. The Museum is the cultural heart of Long Beach, where people of all ages can experience the beauty and power of art in a comfortable, casual, and enjoyable oceanfront setting. Our permanent collection is a tremendous community resource used primarily in two ways; as a teaching tool to promote the world of art, the lives of artists, and the creative process as an integral part of education, as well as in thematic exhibitions organized by the Museum.

Since 1999, the Museum in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District, has been the pre-eminent provider of in-classroom arts education and out-of-classroom museum field trips for all fifth graders. The John and Helen Apostle Youth Gallery celebrates elementary, middle, and high school art students' unique visions and artworks through regular exhibitions. The Museum reaches out to families, seniors, students, and young people to cultivate long-lasting relationships and move beyond a single experience so that people who come to the Museum come more often. Our outdoor campus is widely used for seasonal weddings, community gatherings, Sunday Family Art Making, and adult workshops. Aside from being a good community partner, art and cultural resource, the Museum is a vital local source of employment and an economic engine for the city.
