Act Out Theatre Company, founded in 2012, is Southern California's premier TUITION-FREE arts organization, dedicated to delivering high-caliber theatrical productions, multi-disciplinary arts education, and transformative youth development initiatives. We empower youth and adults from all backgrounds to engage, grow, and lead in the performing arts. In addition to full length plays and musical theater performance opportunities, we offer year-round arts workshops across a variety of artistic disciplines for all age ranges. Additionally, through our Jr. Board of Directors Program, we offer high school students the opportunity to participate in leadership and business mentoring as well as hundreds of hours of community service that benefits their college applications. The Act Out Theatre Company goes far beyond theater and art. Our goals are to provide a safe and creative environment where children and adults are building team skills, learning how to cooperate and work with each other toward common goals, improving confidence and grades, building social skills and learning social responsibility, acquiring habits and skills that carry over into their lives at school and work…this all just happens to take place in the context of theater and the arts. With over 400 youth and families impacted by our programs, we are one of the largest youth arts programs in the city! We are working hard to revitalize our Long Beach neighborhoods with activities that spur creativity, innovation and empowerment. Through arts education and youth mentoring we are helping transform our neighbors into better students, stronger families and people with a brighter hope for the future!
Testimonials
"Since 2022, Act Out has been a very big part of my life. I recall going to see one of their shows to see a friend perform and being mesmerized by the performance of not just my friend but of everyone who participated. I was currently not committed to a theater company and jumping around others to find a good fit but everywhere else was always very cliquey and I never made many friends. When I decided to come to Act Out for their next show it was as if I was stepping into a whole new atmosphere. I had never auditioned in front of a group before but everyone I talked to was so kind and welcoming that I was able to calm my nerves and step out of my comfort zone. Even though I got a small part I was still overjoyed to be casted as a role. I was able to make fast friends with a lot of the cast members and it was an overall great experience.
My positive experiences with that show prompted me to come back again and again going from Ensemble to small roles with little solos, to having supporting and lead roles. Self growth had always been something I’ve struggled with, most of the time I’ve ended up feeling as though I’m stuck in one place with no improvement but with Act Out, I was able to see the improvement and feel like I was doing something right. This program creates a safe atmosphere to cultivate your art and I am immensely grateful for what it has done for me and its community." - Lexi M., a participant
"My daughter and I have been a part of Act Out for a few years now. Our time at Act Out has been such a tremendous blessing to our family. It allowed my daughter to come into her own and gain confidence in her gifts. It allowed me to come back to the stage and start acting again, and now we get to act together and do something we have in common and do what we love together. So thank you to Act Out for everything you've done!" - Danellia A., a parent and participant
