No matter what your background or economic status, the American Cancer Society is determined to help. The American Cancer Society estimates that approximately two thousand Long Beach residents will be diagnosed with cancer in 2021. If you've been recently diagnosed, or know someone who has, we're here with answers, guidance, and support. You don't have to face a cancer diagnosis alone.

Using our website www.cancer.org or 24/7 Cancer Helpline (800) 227-2345, Long Beach residents can learn more about their cancer diagnosis, rides and lodging to help them get their treatments and support groups to help them and their families cope. We also partner with Long Beach Memorial Hospital to help reach cancer patients letting them know of this valuable resource. In 2019, we supported over 1500 service request, 20 nights of stay using our Lodging program and 701 rides through our transportation program for Long Beach cancer patients.

Along with our American Cancer Society office, we also own and operate a Discovery Shop specialty resale store in the Belmont Shores area, featuring items such as clothing, accessories, jewelry, artwork, antiques, collectibles, furniture, and other household items for resale. There's always something new to discover with refreshed merchandise daily, and you'll love our amazing volunteers! Every purchase supports the American Cancer Society mission as well as a sustainable global environment.

Now, amid unprecedented declines in screening rates as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are approaching our efforts to increase screening rates with more urgency than ever. The American Cancer Society will be working with local leadership to help remind residents on the benefits of screening and the importance of regular check-ups, to include populations with traditionally lower screening rates and populations that have been historically disadvantaged.
