EngAGE, Inc. changes lives by transforming affordable senior, family, and intergenerational housing communities into vibrant centers of learning, wellness, and creativity. Since 2010, we have been providing innovative programming supporting low-income seniors at Long Beach Senior Arts Colony in District 1.

EngAGE has developed a framework for co-creating intentionally designed programming to address the epidemic of loneliness and isolation by creating beneficial social connections and a strong sense of belonging for our senior residents and partners in all the communities we serve.

We achieve this by providing professionally delivered, free, on-site programs in well-being, the arts, lifelong learning, and community building. We create connection encouraging residents to contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. We build strong collaborations with local community partners to expand our impact in each neighborhood.

Since 1999, EngAGE, Inc. has embraced a whole-person approach to creativity and wellness and has been at the forefront of addressing social determinants of healthy aging by providing arts, wellness, and lifelong learning programs to low-income older adults living in affordable housing communities. We currently serve over 6,000 residents at 43 communities throughout California and in the Portland Oregon area.

EngAGE offers older adults and family’s access to high-quality program instruction and events. Addressing isolation and loneliness through connectedness is the foundation of our service provision with an emphasis on developing healthy lifestyles and opportunities for aging-in-place. Community social and educational programs include multiple weekly workshops of varying interests and focuses. Our programming is provided on a semester basis and is taught by teaching artists and educators. Each semester includes 6-12-week classes in a range of disciplines such as arts and creativity, health and wellness, lifelong learning, and intergenerational programming.

Our Program Directors bring proven expertise in recruiting and supporting skilled teaching artists and educators and developing partnerships with local organizations to design curriculum and host culminating events. This ensures that residents, who are often overlooked due to economic barriers, have meaningful opportunities for healthy aging through social connection.
