Promoting Equal Access & Housing Rights for All

The Fair Housing Foundation, established in 1964, is a dedicated non-profit organization working to eliminate discrimination in housing and ensure equal access to housing choices for everyone. Our mission is rooted in upholding fair housing laws, empowering communities, and fostering inclusive environments where all individuals can thrive.

Our Programs

  • Discrimination Complaint Intake and Investigation: We counsel individuals facing allegations of housing discrimination, conduct intake of bona fide cases, and perform testing to uncover evidence of discrimination.
  • Enforcement and Impact Litigation: Our team resolves discrimination cases through conciliation, mediation, administrative referrals, or litigation, and conducts audits to address geographic or ownership-based discrimination.
  • General Housing Counseling (Landlord & Tenant): We offer practical guidance to landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities, assist with habitability cases, unlawful detainers, mediations, and connect clients to appropriate resources.
  • Education and Outreach: Our outreach efforts include media campaigns, annual events, tenant workshops, informational booths, and presentations. We also educate housing providers through specialized workshops, management trainings, and realtor sessions, as well as provide City services including walk-in clinics and presentations.

For fiscal year 2025, the Fair Housing Foundation assisted 3,011 new clients and delivered 3,652 landlord & tenant counseling sessions. Within its fair housing services, FHF conducted 411 discrimination counseling sessions, opened 106 discrimination cases, and completed 294 investigations.

Through these comprehensive programs, the Fair Housing Foundation strives to create a fair and just housing environment for all members of the community. All services are free to the clients.

Fair Housing Services for Seniors

The fair housing service designed to address the unique housing challenges faced by older adults, ensuring they have equal access to safe, affordable, and inclusive housing. This program prioritizes education, advocacy, and direct support to empower seniors with knowledge about their rights and the resources available to them.

Our targeted outreach initiative aims to increase awareness of housing rights, protections, and available remedies among seniors. By partnering with local organizations, we provide practical education, direct assistance, and foster collaboration to ensure seniors have access to stable and inclusive housing.

  • Fair Housing Workshops & Presentations: Delivers in-person and virtual workshops at local senior centers, affordable housing sites, and community events. Topics include protections against discrimination, how to request reasonable accommodations or modifications, and protections against source of income discrimination.
  • Outreach & Partnerships: By collaborating with senior service agencies, cultural organizations, and housing providers, the program expands its reach and ensures culturally competent services. Resource tables at community events connect seniors directly with legal, social, and supportive services.
  • Advocacy & Enforcement: Seniors receive individual support in reporting housing discrimination and navigating complaint processes.
  • Resource Development: Educational brochures, guides, and digital content are created and distributed to make fair housing information accessible. Materials are available in multiple languages and formats to accommodate different needs.
  • Reporting & Evaluation: Collects data on outreach, service utilization, and reported incidents of discrimination to monitor effectiveness and adjust strategies for greater impact.

Through these comprehensive efforts, the Fair Housing Program for Seniors empowers older adults to assert their rights, seek remedies when faced with discrimination, and maintain stable housing as they age.

In the past year, the Fair Housing Foundation welcomed 3,011 new clients, of whom 571 were seniors. This highlights the significant need for fair housing services among older adults in the community. All services are free to the clients.
