Grant Neighborhood Association (DBA Nehyam Neighborhood Association) is raising money for two purposes:
* To hire a professional to build both a Nehyam website and our social media presence -- Facebook, Instagram and other tools so we can better reach the 1,300 households in our neighborhood.
* To buy Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for the families of homeless students in North Long Beach. Each $100 will enable us to get Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for one family.
Grant/Nehyam is dedicated to building a better neighborhood. In the past decade, we have created a mini-park, planted and maintained parkways and other gardens, rehabbed commercial buildings, coached small business owners, organized programs for the needy, celebrated long-time businesses, overseen traffic-control improvements, coordinated street, sidewalk and sign repairs, created the first historic district in North LB, assisted new business in navigating city hall, removed old hardscapes, planted 200-plus trees, rehabbed and repurposed an old firehouse and brought a gamut of public events there, problem-solved for dozens of residents, organized programs to keep our alleys and parkways clean all the time and not dependent on periodic clean-ups and created our Santa Visits Every Child program.
"Grant Neighborhood Association" is how we are registered with the federal government but with the state and city we are "Nehyam Neighborhood Association," using the Tongva word for "friends" and honoring the first people here.
