Financial literacy can change a child’s future.
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up understanding how money works.
Yet many students will spend years learning math, reading, science and history before graduating from high school without ever learning how to manage a bank account, understand credit, create a budget or make informed financial decisions.
InvestEd: Financial Literacy for the Future is changing that—one classroom at a time.
InvestEd is a Long Beach nonprofit bringing engaging, hands-on financial education directly to elementary school students. Through our 10-week program, 4th and 5th grade students learn not only how money works, but how the choices they make today can shape their futures.
Students learn to:
- Set financial goals
- Save and budget
- Use banks and understand credit
- Explore compound growth
- Invest in stocks and bonds
- Research and evaluate companies
- Understand risk
- Build diversified portfolios
Along the way, they strengthen essential academic and life skills, including math, reading, writing, research, teamwork and critical thinking.
But InvestEd is not about memorizing financial vocabulary.
Our students put their knowledge into action.
Through The Stock Market Game, student teams manage simulated investment portfolios using real-world market data. Through InvestWrite, a national essay writing competition, students research companies, analyze financial decisions and communicate their ideas through persuasive writing.
And they are achieving remarkable results.
In our most recent program:
- A Lowell Elementary student earned 1st place in the nation in the InvestWrite essay competetion.
- A Kettering Elementary student placed 9th nationally in InvestWrite
- Kettering students earned 1st place in the region in The Stock Market Game
- Lowell students earned 2nd place in the region
These accomplishments are about more than trophies. They show what students can achieve when they are given access to meaningful opportunities, high expectations and the tools to understand their financial futures.
Why your support matters:
InvestEd’s goal is to reach more Long Beach classrooms, especially schools and communities where students may have had fewer opportunities to access financial education.
Your donation helps provide:
- Classroom instruction
- Student workbooks and learning materials
- Access to national financial education programs
- Hands-on investing and financial activities
- Opportunities for students to apply what they learn
- Support for expanding InvestEd to more classrooms
Most importantly, your support helps students discover that saving, investing and building wealth are not just things other people do.
They can do them, too.
Financial literacy is about more than money.
It is about confidence.
It is about opportunity.
It is about choices.
When we teach a child how to make informed financial decisions, we give that child tools that can influence an entire lifetime—and potentially strengthen families for generations.
Help us give more Long Beach students the knowledge, confidence and opportunity to build a stronger financial future.
