The Joseph Learning Lab

We Unleashed learning tools to help students who fall behind, catch up!

The Joseph Learning Lab was established in 2015 in response to a critical need in the community.  After seeing far too many children left behind the learning curve, it was time to step up.  Knowing that a community can be measured by the importance that it places on the growth of its children, we became that community (Join Us!)

Our phones and emails are flooded with messages from parents who desperately seek help this Fall for underserved children, who fall behind and struggle to catch up at school!

We connect with staff/administrators, parents and youth in the Long Beach Unified School District, and surrounding communities who need additional support.  We have helped nearly 1,000 underserved children catch up to reading level and progress academically. 

Outcomes! 

After school tutoring program:

We served nearly 1,000 underserved K–12 students who had fallen behind due to inadequate foundational instruction in phonics and early literacy skills following the COVID-19 pandemic. Through targeted academic support, students were able to catch up in reading, mathematics, and other core courses. 

More than 300 tutor volunteers were matched with students based on their individual learning and social-development needs.

Summer enrichment sessions:

Qualified teachers at the Joseph Learning Lab helped hundreds of students continue making academic progress during the summer months. Through targeted instruction and engaging learning activities, students strengthened their classroom skills, curbed summer learning loss, and prepared for the upcoming school year.

Recreation activities with fun games and activities encouraged socialization, teamwork, positive interpersonal skills, and helped to remedy the nation's childhood obesity - health issues.

Meal provisions for hundreds of food insecure families. 

Parent-Student engagement skill sessions encouraged more family involvement in their child's education and behavior.

The Joseph Learning Lab’s Board of Directors is uniquely qualified and dedicated to the organization’s cause. The Board has advanced the organization’s work, strengthened its programs, and sustained ongoing operations.
