Long Beach Residents Empowered

Long Beach Residents Empowered (LiBRE) provides grassroots support for Long Beach's working class tenants in the form of direct advocacy, direct action, organizing tenants, providing legal clinics in partnership with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, providing tenant counseling by organizing experts and providing educational materials to the community.

While tenants worried about protecting themselves from the COVID-19, they've also been weighed down by the anxieties of receiving an eviction notice that may leave them out in the street during a public health crisis. This has been a focal point of LiBRE's work since the start of the pandemic and guided how we show up to fight for tenant rights. On a city council level, we've continued to push for eviction moratoriums and backed the People's Budget LB campaign that included calls to implement funding for a right to counsel and establishing a citywide rental housing division. Throughout this time, we've also joined forces with organizers and tenants who see the dire need to put people over profit. We've utilized our social media platforms to share tenant rights updates and connect community members with ways they can support families who need emergency housing.
