One of the Mayor's Fund's largest and most successful programs is the ReadyRosieLB Family Engagement Program, which addresses local issues such as the socio-economic achievement gap, kindergarten-readiness, early literacy and math development, limited preschool enrollment, social-emotional development, health and well-being, and caregiver child development knowledge by showcasing quick and easily replicable activities that parents can do with their children. ReadyRosieLB is offered in English, Spanish, and Khmer, and access is free for all local families and inclusive for families and children of all abilities.
Post-Covid-19 pandemic, consistent provider-to-family communication facilitated by ReadyRosieLB is more critical than ever as the Long Beach Unified School District has identified a 3-year learning loss - meaning students are entering grade level 3-years behind where they should be both academically and socially/emotionally. ReadyRosieLB is a proven resource families and educators alike can utilize in the early years to improve communication, provide developmentally appropriate activities, and mitigate learning loss.
Since its creation in 2017, ReadyRosieLB has achieved over 430,000 learning outcomes for students and over 548,000 learning outcomes for the family unit, and we are asking for your help to continue driving this program forward in order to build upon its successes! If you are a Long Beach resident and would like to hear about how to register for your free access to the program, please reach out to info@mayorsfundfored.org.
Comments we've received from caregivers in Long Beach who use ReadyRosie:
"We did [the activity] a couple of times and each time was a different experience. He'd either just laugh or smile, or try to give me an answer."
"[My child] normally does not enjoy shopping but when I get her involved and talk to her about what we are shopping for it makes it fun for her. They like being able to pick fruits and vegetables out and put them in the bag."
"Me gusta mucho por k asi sabremos que es lo le pasas a nuestros ninos."
