My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support is a grassroots, survivor-led nonprofit organization committed to bringing local and national attention to the devastating impact breast cancer has on the African American community. Our role is to educate and advocate for the health and wellness of our community.
As survivors, advocates, and community stakeholders, we understand the need for culturally competent support, health literacy, trauma-informed care, and improved access to care for vulnerable, and marginalized communities. For more than 20 years, we have served as a trusted community resource by providing one-on-one peer support, educational outreach, resource navigation, wig and apparel referrals, screening navigation assistance, and treatment transportation support.
In today’s post-pandemic economy, many individuals facing breast cancer are also experiencing serious financial hardship. The burden of “financial toxicity” can cause patients to delay or forgo necessary treatment, creating additional barriers to healing and survival. Our programs help address health equity through culturally responsive outreach, practical support, safety-net resources, health education, and direct peer-to-peer assistance.
Through our survivor-led approach, we help individuals and families connect the dots during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Whether someone needs encouragement, help finding resources, support navigating screening options, or transportation assistance to access care, My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support remains committed to reducing barriers and helping our community move toward better health outcomes.
