The Second Responders

First Responders Save Lives. TIP Helps People Through the Aftermath.

When tragedy strikes in Long Beach, first responders handle the emergency. TIP volunteers provide emotional first aid to the people left standing in the middle of it.

TIP of Long Beach responds alongside police, fire, and hospital personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to support survivors experiencing sudden death, violence, accidents, suicide, fires, and other traumatic events.

Our trained volunteers help survivors navigate the first overwhelming hours after tragedy with compassion, calm, and practical support.

Your Support Makes This Response Possible

TIP services are always free and available to everyone in our community, regardless of background, language, identity, or immigration status.

Your donation helps us recruit, train, and equip the Second Responders who show up when people need human connection most.

Giving Activity

Mission

The Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Long Beach is dedicated to ensuring that no one faces tragedy alone. As trained volunteer Second Responders, TIP members provide immediate emotional first aid, practical support, and compassionate presence to survivors, families, witnesses, and bystanders in the aftermath of sudden tragedy.

Serving both Long Beach and Signal Hill, TIP volunteers work alongside law enforcement, fire personnel, and healthcare professionals to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While first responders focus on saving lives, securing scenes, and providing emergency care, TIP volunteers address the human impact of crisis—offering comfort, resources, and hope when it is needed most.

As Second Responders, we bridge the gap between emergency response and recovery, ensuring that survivors are not left to navigate tragedy alone. Our mission is to bring compassion, calm, and connection in life's most difficult moments while supporting the first responders who serve our communities every day.

Because healing begins with human connection, TIP ensures that compassion arrives when it is needed most.
