AIDS Food Store Long Beach

Over thirty-three years ago, during the outbreak of the AIDS epidemic and at the height of the fear and stigma associated with AIDS, brave, compassionate members of the community came together to address the needs of those infected with HIV/AIDS. These men and women recognized the basic needs of those infected with HIV/AIDS, and they provided them with bags of nutritious food. In 1992, the AIDS Food Store organized to secure nonprofit status as a 501(c)(3).

Until October 2017, AFS offered food distribution twice a month serving several dozen people per distribution. Since then, the Board of Directors decided to add four additional distributions days per month, and, we have moved to a new location at 1066 Atlantic Ave., which makes our services more accessible to our clients throughout the Greater Long Beach Area.

With this increase in distribution days in our new location, we have been serving over 120 clients per week, and, since the onset of the Covid-19 virus, we have served an additional 120 Long Beach community members with fresh vegetables, produce, dairy products and meats.
Our organization receives financial support, food and supplies from local organizations, businesses, foundations, community groups, churches, restaurants and individuals. The Board of Directors is committed to providing food to our clients for free.
