Assistance League of Long Beach

Assistance League of Long Beach is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to empower and transform lives of children and adults through impactful programs. Our auxiliaries (Rick Rackers, Las Hermanas, and CAMEO) combine with chapter members to create the dynamic community of volunteers that is the lifeblood of the organization.

We are one of more than 70 national chapters and are recognized as having the largest number of members. We focus on serving children in need in the greater Long Beach region.

• We clothe more than 11,000 children in need (K-12) through Operation School Bell® with new sets of school uniforms;
• We provide more than 1,000 children with high-quality, low-cost orthodontic care through our Orthodontic Program;
• We enlighten students on alternatives to violence and bullying through the Kids on the Block puppet program;
• We teach pre-reading skills to underserved K-1 students through our Launching Literacy program;

• We tend to more than 2,200 pediatric patients and their families at Miller Children’s Hospital with bedside arts and entertainment activities through ALa Carte;

• We educate seventh graders and adults about Asian history and art through tours of the Howard and Asian Art Collection at the Philanthropic Center every year;

• We foster community-based philanthropy for high school students through our Assisteens® Programs.  
• We mentor over 30 Long Beach Unified School District high school students and Long Beach City College re-entry career women through CAMEO Professional Auxiliary’s Mentoring Program;
• We train students from the Adult Transition Program at California State University, Long Beach to work at the Thrift & Vintage Shop and students from Long Beach Unified School’s Adult Community Transition Program to work at the Philanthropic Center to learn work and social skills and to develop self-reliance to help them grow from dependence to independence through the Vocational Training program;

• We award students financial scholarships through our Scholarships program.
• We care for survivors of sexual assault by providing “wear home” clothes when their clothing is needed for evidence and domestic abuse victims with comfort items through the Assault Survivor Kits® program.
