HLF has provided 24,000 pairs of BRAND NEW HIGH QUALITY shoes to youth in just 10 years!

Properly fitting shoes worn during tremendous periods of growth are essential to gait function, foot formation, and overall healthy bone structure. Yet, for a family experiencing homelessness and poverty, it is difficult to afford new shoes every four months. Many children wear used, broken and ill-fitting shoes that, besides causing potentially permanent pain, creates embarrassment and shame leading to social isolation and school absences. Children and youth who wear properly fitting shoes have significantly increased self-esteem, directly resulting in improved physical activity, school attendance and positive peer engagement! Something as simple and overlooked as a pair of new shoes makes a huge difference in the life of a child!

We are working to provide Youth Development and Support to those in need. One of the most basic resources families struggle to retain is new pairs of shoes, which is an indicator for a child attending school of their level of poverty. We have worked over the past decade to stomp out the stigma of poverty in youth by ensuring they will have the resources they need to feel successful at school and in their sports programs. During the Pandemic, the level of need for families across Long Beach greatly increased. Many lost housing and have been without the basic essentials for their family, especially during this Back-to-School season. His Little Feet began our nonprofit journey providing new socks and shoes to children and youth in transition such as Foster Care and Adoption sheltered programs. Providing back packs, school supplies and formal wear for youth looking for work, prom and graduation attire. We have an intern program for high school and college students, and we have served 17 youth in the semester program so far!
