Elementary Ensembles for Long Beach 2nd and 3rd Graders
For the past 45 years, Long Beach Symphony has been in a partnership with Long Beach Unified School District to provide music education.
Symphony music education programs begin in 2nd grade and continue through high school. The first program that Long Beach students take part in are ensembles that introduce the primary instruments in an orchestra. 2nd and 3rd graders learn about the instruments by family. In successive years, students learn about strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion – when different ensembles visit their school each year. Coinciding with an ensemble performance, students learn about music concepts of pitch, melody, rhythm, harmony, composition, and musical storytelling. The Symphony provides corresponding classroom materials to enhance the learning experience.
The Symphony’s ensemble program is the only program that is not 100% funded from year to year. This program costs $60,000 per year, so this is where you can be a hero and help us fund this program during the 2025-2026 season. A donation in any amount helps us get that much closer to funding these incredibly valuable music education experiences.
