Instrument Petting Zoo - Music Education Program

The Long Beach Symphony’s beloved Instrument Petting Zoo (IPZ) is a traveling collection of orchestral instruments, Symphony staff, and volunteers that visit local libraries and community events, offering children a hands-on introduction to the world of music. Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers present engaging demonstrations, explaining how each instrument works, how to produce sound, and how it fits into the orchestra. For some children, this is their first up-close introduction to musical instruments. After the presentation, children are invited to put their newfound knowledge into practice by trying out the instruments themselves. The Instrument Petting Zoo is designed to spark curiosity, inspire young minds to explore music, and foster a lifelong love for the arts.
