Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) has been protecting Southern California's animals since 1877. spcaLA now operates three shelters, the largest being the spcaLA P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center, situated on 6.5 acres in El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
Beyond adoptions, spcaLA works with Long Beach-area schools and nonprofits to help break the cycle of violence, and promote empathy and compassion in our community with violence prevention and humane education programs. These include Teaching Love & Compassion (TLC), the spcaLA Court Diversion Program for Youth, and Animal Safety Net (ASN).
At the Village, spcaLA offers Pet Care Patch Workshops, Friends for Life Summer Camp, dog training classes, and a pet marketplace. Your donation will expand our ability to increase human-animal bonding and help to make Long Beach one of the most humane communities in the United States!
Testimonials
"We recently adopted Churro (formerly Obi). Tabitha and Sariah were so helpful. The process was well organized and we are so happy. Churro is loving his forever home. We are so grateful!" - Melina N.
"I recently adopted Max from spcaLA, and I'm so grateful for the compassion, care, and communication that Max and I received from everyone at the adoption center. The adoption process was quite delicate, as a family had returned him due to incompatibility with their small children. While Max was in his waiting period, I received daily updates from staff, and it was clear how invested they were in making sure Max found the right home. When I went to pick him up, the staff reiterated his needs and recommended some initial steps in bonding and training. As a bonus, his $50 adoption fee included all of his vaccinations AND his neuter. I'd also like to shout out that during all of this, spcaLA was also taking in animals affected by the LA wildfires. spcaLA is incredible." - Celine V.
"My son attended the Friends for Life summer camp last summer and I highly recommend it! He learned about animal welfare and behavior, working with animals, and the importance of kindness and compassion. He loved going everyday. The staff were great with the kids. It was a very worthwhile experience." - Holly P.
