We the People High School

We the People is a public charter high school serving students across Long Beach in grades 9 - 12. We the People is an action civics school where students learn to solve real-world problems through interdisciplinary project-based work, a focus on place-based education ("all politics is local"), and public-facing events where students educate their communities about issues that impact us all.

The vision of WTP is to foster an academic environment that leverages our diversity and our city to apprentice students in global citizenship. At WTP, local, national and global issues become the core curriculum. Students are apprenticed by expert teachers and community members to engage, investigate, and act to solve some of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, inequality, and justice for all. Through a focus on the environment, the arts and media, and the practice of democratic deliberation, students are equipped to become agents of change in our city.

We the People High School is located in central Long Beach, an urban neighborhood located in the 90813 zip code. Our school serves students from downtown, central, west, and north Long Beach, as well as Compton and south L.A. Our current student body is 80% socio-economically disadvantaged, 9% English Learners, and 16% students with disabilities. Our racial and ethnic breakdown is 45% black, 40% Latinx, 10% two or more races, and 5% white.
