I like asking our kids curious coaching questions about their past, their present, and future, and here is what AHC, an 11th grade student that is learning Italian (and currently holds a 550+ day streak on Duolingo!) told me.
Who inspired you to pursue college?
My parents have always inspired me to do better in school and pursue a higher education. They didn’t have the same opportunities as me and they would always emphasize the value of an education and how it can give you opportunities. They have always told me that no one can take away my education so I value their encouragement to achieve what they couldn’t.
What’s the biggest challenge you’re tackling right now?
Balancing school workload and extracurriculars. I stay involved in my school and that can be difficult while also attending the needs of the YLA students as their president. I’ve learned about time management to tackle these challenges but staying on task on class assignments especially during my junior year has been a lot.
What’s one way you plan to use your education to make an impact on others?
I plan on using my education as a tool for empowerment to make an impact on others. With an education not only would I break a family norm but I could also use my skills to uplift others, motivate them. My goal is to provide for my family, improve our current lifestyle, and give back to those who have guided and shaped me to be the person I am today.
