I hope you will join me in my effort to support Aquatic Capital of America (ACOA) during Long Beach Gives Week. The ACOA underwrites kids learn to swim programs in Long Beach.
We specifically support underserved youth through our Waterproof Our Youth and Grants for Gear programs.
Each year the number of kids we support grows.
2023 (200), 2024 (300), 2025 (380) and in 2026 we hope to provide close to 500 kids from all over Long Beach an opportunity to learn to swim.
I moved to Long Beach in 1989 and raised my four children here in Long Beach area schools. All have been involved in Aquatics here in Long Beach.
As my four grandchildren grow up, I hope they will also enjoy the opportunities that our Long Beach Community offers. Swimming, Waterpolo, Rowing, Sailing, Surfing, Paddle Sports all have one requirement to participate - being able to swim.
For the past dozen years I have lead the Annual Naples Island Swims here in Long Beach. The event started in 1903 and I am proud to carry the leadership baton as we have grown over the years into one of the largest Open Water Swims in Southern California. Proceeds from our event go to support the ACOA and WaterProof Our Youth programs.
Please join me as we continue to support youth aquatics here in Long Beach.
