Funding Local History with HSLB!

I love Long Beach. I was thrilled to get my archival career started amongst the collections in the Historical Society of Long Beach's (HSLB) Bixby Knolls home. I learned so much while working there, but the most rewarding thing for me was seeing the joy from members, patrons, and researchers who experienced the exhibitions, events, and collections that the HSLB team works tirelessly to collect, preserve, and share. 

These efforts do not come cheap! As the HSLB expands our collections, contributes to exhibits around the city, and enhances our gallery exhibitions, our budget continues to grow. Our staff frequently includes students and new-professionals who gain invaluable experience while cutting their teeth amongst the collections and exhibits. (Hi! I'm living proof!) Maintaining archival collections, developing unique programming, and providing living wages are costly endeavors!

I have graduated from and employee to being a proud member of the HSLB's Board of Directors. I donate my own money, my archival experience, and my free time to the organization because I truly believe we are doing something important for my hometown. We work tirelessly to collect, preserve, and share the history of our city. We provide free and cheap entertainment that is cleverly disguising educational content, teaching our patrons about Long Beach and the surrounding areas in fun and exciting ways. The staff at the HSLB continues to enhance, evolve, and sometimes completely reinvent the way we share information. I am constantly impressed by the team and their work product.
