One of my favorite things about the Historical Society of Long Beach is our gallery and archives in Bixby Knolls. In the 1950s, the storefront belonged to Harris Furs. The retailer sold fur coats (which were still a prestige fashion statement) and offered cold storage for fur owners. The terrazzo entry still proudly proclaims the history of the building--the kind of history that the HSLB works to preserve and protect.

I first came to the Historical Society as a volunteer, and I'm proud to be part of the staff here. The HSLB helps make the history of this amazing city accessible to everyone by preserving the images, documents, and artifacts that tell their stories. We make sure everyone in this city can find their history in our archives. But we can't do this work without the help and support of the community whose stories we're trying to tell. That means YOU, Long Beach! Because you are part of Long Beach, you are part of Long Beach history. Your support will help us keep our gallery free and open to the public and the archives accessible to researchers. Please donate to the HSLB so we can keep your history alive.
