Opportunity Changes Everything

Access to opportunity, not potential, is what most often determines a young person's future. I joined BOSS as Director of Programs & Impact because I believe that, and because BOSS has spent years building something that proves it.

BOSS has built the developmental infrastructure that helps our scholars discover their potential, develop the skills and behaviors to realize it, and ultimately achieve educational attainment, economic mobility, and lifelong leadership. That infrastructure includes academic support, tools, experiences, relationships, exposure, social capital, and real opportunities.

The results speak for themselves:

• 99% of BOSS alumni are pursuing post-secondary education, at a time when three-fourths of boys in Southern California exit high school without meeting the requirements to apply to a four-year college or university. Our scholars attend Stanford, UCLA, CSULB, San Diego State, San Jose State, and HBCUs including Morehouse, Howard, Xavier, and Florida A&M.
• Scholars achieve 63% higher math proficiency and 20% higher reading proficiency than the LBUSD average.
• Programs built for real growth: the BOSS Decision Lab develops judgment before real-life decisions carry consequences, the BOSS Career Navigator turns strengths and interests into informed education and career pathways, and BOSSmatics identifies and closes foundational math gaps.
