This year for Long Beach Gives, we are raising funds to continue offering music classes at the Long Beach City College Child Development Centers. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to ensure that every child at both Centers can keep experiencing the joy and developmental benefits of weekly music education during the 2025–2026 school year.

This past year, we were fortunate to receive a generous Camerata Children’s Music Academy grant, which provided two free 30-minute music classes each week to every classroom—22 in total! These uplifting sessions were led by the Long Beach Camerata Singers, whose Pre-K Music Academy is a unique, interactive program centered on the vocal arts. Children explored foundational music skills such as:

  • Singing
  • Reading Notes
  • Melody & Harmony
  • Tempo & Rhythm
  • Conducting
  • Music Appreciation

Research shows that early music education supports reading, math, teamwork, and self-confidence. Each week, Camerata’s highly trained music educators bring guitars, keyboards, percussion instruments—and joyful energy—into our classrooms. Evaluations confirm what we see daily: children in this program show measurable growth and are better prepared for Kindergarten.

Nearly 70% of the children enrolled at our Centers live at or below the poverty level and qualify for state subsidies. For many families, enrichment opportunities like this are simply out of reach. With your support, we can continue offering every child the gift of music.
