Support the Arts at Angels Gate with Nicole Whelan

The first time I stepped onto the Angels Gate campus five years ago, I could tell it was a special place. Set on a bluff overlooking the Pacific, Angels Gate transformed former military buildings and their surrounding grounds into a thriving arts community, home to more than 50 working artists, contemporary art exhibitions, and classes and workshops led by practicing artist-teachers.

What I find particularly compelling is the breadth of what happens there. On any given visit, you might encounter a new gallery exhibition, meet artists at work in their studios during Open Studio Days, or experience signature events ranging from soundpedro, an annual showcase of experimental sound art, to the Many Winters Gathering of Elders, which brings together Indigenous elders and knowledge-keepers to share teachings through oral tradition.

I recently joined the Board because I believe places like Angels Gate are increasingly important and worth sustaining. I hope you’ll consider supporting Angels Gate and the artists, programs, and communities that make it such a distinctive part of San Pedro and greater Los Angeles.
