SCC was the first LGBTQ+ organization that I saw had a truly diverse environment. As someone who fits into multiple minority categories, I never felt like I stood out as there were always others like me. Most notably, as SCC has a significant older demographic, my own health issues didn't feel like an exception. I truly value the community that SCC has built and have definitely made lifelong friendships here. Please consider donating $5, $10, $50 to keep this organization going strong and performing into the next year.

Beyond being the first internship I had in college, SCC's performances have educated and inspired me. For example, my first time learning about Bayard Rustin was through SCC's Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream. When I had heard members' experiences with affirming their identities and push to create their own accepting communities, it helped me find my own people that feel like home to me. Of course, my internship with SCC and especially with D.L. Abshire's guidance, helped me develop my own skills in fundraising and grant writing which I then used for other nonprofits. Even though the economy has steered me away from that path for now, I am certain I will continue adapting those skills in the present and for future endeavors in my career. I have a voracious appetite to learn and figure out how to do better, and SCC was the perfect environment for me to cultivate and build on those instincts. I want SCC to keep being a place where all people can keep learning and developing at, whether that is with music or in other technical aspects.
