Hi, I’m Derek Santifer. I first came to LBCC in 1985 and graduated the following year in 1986. During my time there, I was honored to make the Dean’s List and compete as part of the Vikings football team. Playing for LBCC was an incredible experience, and I was blessed to receive several honors along the way. After two unforgettable years at LBCC, I was awarded a scholarship to San Diego State University, where I played for the Aztecs in 1987 and 1988.
Looking back, I’ll always treasure those years, but one of the greatest moments of my journey came when I was inducted into the LBCC Hall of Champions. That honor is something I will carry with me forever. Even after 40 years, I am still proud to be a Viking.
There are many sayings that explain why I support the LBCC Foundation, but three in particular stand out to me: “It’s never too late to make a change,” “Giving Back,” and “Paying it Forward.”
I am giving back by now serving on the Foundation’s Executive Committee for the Board of Governors and as a member of the Board’s Athletics Committee. I proudly support the Foundation’s participation in the Long Beach Gives campaign, this year raising funds to enhance the Alumni Nursing endowment Fund.
Our nursing students are the future of healthcare, and their program's Endowment Fund provides them with scholarships, supplies, needed equipment and technology. I will be most grateful if you will donate to our campaign through my page here. Thank you!
