Hi, I’m Andres! I’m excited to raise funds for the CELP Scholars as part of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Long Beach Gives campaign. This program is changing the future of marine science by providing leadership opportunities to young people from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about protecting our oceans.

Why This Cause is Important to Me

This cause is deeply important to me because I know firsthand what it feels like to be a student with big dreams but limited access to opportunities. Like many students, I once struggled to find the experiences, mentorship, and connections that could help me discover where I belonged in science. Being accepted into the CELP Scholars Program changed that for me. It opened doors I did not know were possible, connected me with an incredible community, and gave me the confidence to see that there is a place for me in science.

Because of how life-changing this experience has been, I want other students to be given that same chance to explore their passions, discover their potential, and find their place in careers related to science and the ocean. Sometimes, all a student needs is for someone to open that first door.

Supporting programs like CELP is also an investment in the future of our ocean. Our marine ecosystems face growing challenges, and we need the next generation of ocean scientists, educators, conservationists, and advocates to bring new ideas and perspectives to protecting them. But that next generation needs opportunities to learn, grow, and discover that they belong in these fields. Programs like CELP provide that opportunity!

CELP changed the course of my life, and I hope that through continued support, it can do the same for countless students in the future. By investing in these students today, we are not only investing in their dreams—we are investing in the future of our ocean.
