These men were pretty important to early Long Beach and the settling of Belmont Heights and Zaferia (East Long Beach). I know this because the Historical Society of Long Beach managed to save many collections that were destined for the dumpster. Really. Ask me about the stories sometimes.
Aside from the above, if you know me you know I am passionate about understanding the places we live. Who built this city? What did they experience? Where did they come from and why Long Beach? The un-embellished and often juicy historic details are typically not found on a Google search. Nope, the decrees, contracts, ephemera, photographs, invoices, and letters held at the HSLB are where I go for for primary (true) resources which then help us and city leaders make better decisions for the future.
But, alas, it takes time and expertise to sort through and catalog collections. This is where you, as a supporter of all things Long Beach history can help. Throw a few bucks to give all of us access to the stories that make Long Beach .... Long Beach. Thank you for keeping the history alive!
