The Past Come to Life!

Hello, 

I am the Research Coordinator for the Historical Society of Long Beach. My job is one of the chief ways the HSLB reaches out to the community. By providing access to materials for curious researchers, we not only reveal the hidden stories within them, but also connect researchers with living history! 

Recently, for the United States' 250th (semi-quincentennial, what a handful of a word), the City of Long Beach, in partnership with the HSLB, Long Beach Public Library, and both local Ranchos, opened up a time capsule that was buried at the old city hall in 1976. This capsule captured a moment in this country's history, a moment that many of the attendees remembered. The most heartfelt thing the capsule contained was a list of letters written by schoolchildren from around the LBUSD, both telling what life was like in 1976 and predicting what 2026 would look like. These letters, some of which were read by their authors, brought history to life. 

It is stories like these that help to keep History alive, but without donations made possible by the likes of you, we wouldn't be able to continue our amazing work. Thank you!
