Peace4Youth -- Camerata's Middle School Ed Program

Long Beach Camerata Singers (LBCS) is the professional choral organization serving Long Beach, now in its 60th Season. This year's Long Beach Gives campaign is dedicated to our Peace4Youth (P4Y) education program, serving LBUSD Middle Schools.   This program gives young choral students the opportunity to learn the music and perform in an assembly of their peers alongside professional and volunteer members of the Long Beach Camerata Singers. A series of workshops before concert day gives the students in-depth understanding of the music and the topic. Students also receive coaching on their public speaking skills and act as narrators for the concert. 

Peace4Youth has been serving LBUSD students since 2019.  It was conceived to bring the music and lessons of Camerata's Peace Project series into schools.  Before Covid, P4Y presented its "Beyond the Golden Door" program, which considered immigration.  P4Y was on hiatus during Covid, but returned in 2021 to offer "Reconciliation," our based on our Peace Project concert celebrating the music of Black artists.  The final two P4Y sessions were based on our environmental justice concerts, "The Worth of Water" and "Cradle of Life."  

Long Beach Camerata Singers performed seven Peace Project concerts, and all of them have been formatted to State of California VAPA standards for use in the Peace4Youth program.  

In the last year, we have struggled to find funding for this important education program.  Usually the program is presented both in the Fall and the Spring in order to reach more schools and more students.  However, last year we only found enough funding to present in once.  

In our new season, which began July 1, we do not have any funding for Peace4Youth.  Please help us serve middle school children in LBUSD with a wonderful musical experience!
