Right now, queer and trans youth are under attack. Politicians are banning books, censoring classrooms, and trying to erase LGBTQIA+ lives. But in Long Beach, we’re showing up differently. Teen Pride is resistance through joy. It’s where youth can be loud, visible, celebrated, and free.
Long Beach Teen Pride is more than just an event. It’s the first time some of these kids have ever danced freely in public, held their partner’s hand without looking over their shoulder, or seen their identity reflected back at them with joy. Last year, one parent told me, “This is the first time these kids have been able to be themselves in public.” That’s the power of this event.
