The mission of Helpline Youth Counseling, Inc. (HYC) is to help build individual, family, and community health, well-being, prosperity, and equity. HYC is a community-based nonprofit organization founded in 1967 and incorporated in 1971 by a group of parents concerned with rising levels of juvenile delinquency, violence, gang affiliation, child abuse, and substance use. During our 2023/2024 fiscal year, HYC served over 25,000 individuals agency-wide with our services, including Behavioral Health, Family, Youth, and Homeless and Housing Support Services.
With one of our four offices located in Long Beach, HYC has provided services and programs for Long Beach children, youth, and families for 31 years. We deliver these services for low-income, at-risk families impacted by health inequities and limited access to health care and mental health care. HYC serves these clients with trauma-informed, strength-based, person-centered prevention, early intervention, education, and treatment services. We also provide supportive services to youth at campuses through LBUSD. Our Metro Street-based homeless engagement team provides direct on-the-ground services on the Blue Line route from Slauson to Downtown Long Beach. Services include direct referrals to emergency housing, permanent housing, mental health services, substance use treatment, obtaining vital documentation, and other supportive services to help clients achieve housing stability. Last year we served 181 homeless people throughout Long Beach.
