About UCC

For over 40 years, UCC has elevated the Cambodian community through local engagement and leadership that embodies Cambodian cultural values.  UCC provides health equity, community integration, youth enrichment, and economic inclusion programs.  In the year, UCC serves over 3,500 community members.

COVID-19 Relief and Economic Recovery

During the pandemic, UCC has given over $129,000 in financial assistance directly to low-income Cambodian families and small businesses. In response to the COVID19 pandemic, UCC has shifted its services to better meet the immediate needs of the Cambodian community in Long Beach, CA while keeping staff and community members safe and healthy.  The immediate needs UCC is focused on are:

COVID-19 Outreach, Education, and Vaccine Assistance

Educating and assisting Khmer-speakers in COVID-19 resources through hosting a COVID-19 Khmer hotline, phone banking, and door-to-door canvassing.

UCC has assisted over 3,000 community members in receiving the vaccine. UCC has outreached to over 17,000 individuals on COVID-19 resources and information.

Housing Counseling and Rental Assistance

Providing housing counseling on financial stability, rental rights, and fair housing. Distributing rental and utilities assistance funds to low-income families below 100% Federal Poverty Level.
UCC gave over $25,800 to 150 low-income families for rental and utilities assistance.

A family needed help with rental relief due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The father lost his job and was the only one providing support to the family. They were behind on rent. UCC assisted the family to receive rental assistance from LBCAP CERRA. The one time payment of $1,000 helped the family stay housed for that month while the father found another job. They are very thankful for the help and it was the first time they ever asked for any kind of assistance. They value the work UCC does and hopes everyone can take advantage of programs UCC is providing to community members.

Business Counseling and Small Business Microgrants

Providing business counseling in access to capital, adhering to COVID-19 health regulations, and social media.
UCC distributed over $72,600 in microgrants to 112 small businesses.

Business navigation at UCC provides resources, Khmer language access and resources, counseling to start-ups, small businesses and many other support within Cambodia Town and throughout Long Beach.

The sole owner of Hong Kong Express is a Cambodian-American female. The client has limited-English speaking capabilities and was pregnant during the pandemic. The client was behind on bills and had no help in running the business. UCC’s Business Navigator worked with the client to apply for various loan and grant programs. After securing a small grant from UCC, she grew more confident applying for other financial assistance programs. With technical assistance and financial counseling, the client secured a grant from the City of Long Beach. She now has a newborn baby and is up to date with her bills. She had a huge financial burden lifted from her shoulders, so now she can focus on being a mother to her child.

Older Adult Health and Food Security

Providing weekly care calls and coordinating health services to Cambodian older adults that are isolated.  UCC has connected 150 Cambodian older adults to fresh groceries and mental health resources.
UCC provided $19,900 of food vouchers to a Cambodian grocery store for 500 community members.

Youth Mental Health

Connecting youth to mental health and workforce development training.
UCC supported over 55 youth and distributed $7,700 in supportive services to youth.

Certified Nursing Program

"Our CNA certification program provides a valuable new skill to those entering the workforce and is also a great addition for experienced healthcare professionals wanting to add another license into their skillset."
