Why Give to the Downtown Residential Council

Your donation to the Downtown Residential Council (DRC) directly benefits YOUR neighborhood. “Sweat equity” fuels the majority of each activity, but modest financial support is still required. Therefore, a small donation has a big impact.

Our six Neighborhood Associations in Downtown drive positive change in their communities. See our many success stories:

Persistent Advocacy

• Creation of Dog Park on Seaside Way
• Creation of Promenade Square Park (1st Street and Promenade)
• Campaign for open container “EZ Sip” events
• Reduced noise impacts from events at Shoreline Drive
• Reduced after-hours illegal activity in beach parking lots
• Virtual elimination of encampments at parks and beaches
• Campaign for cameras for automated ticketing of speeding vehicles

Volunteer Civic Action

• Revitalization of 12 planters on Pine Avenue between 4th and 7th Streets
• Candidate Forums for Mayor and District 1 (multiple election years)
• Training and support for Ready Your Long Beach Neighborhood (disaster preparedness) groups
• Weekly and Monthly neighborhood cleanups
• Monthly dialogues with City Council District 1, the Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA), and the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD)

Information Distribution

• Monthly Neighborhood Association meetings for residents (renters and owners)
• Public information forums on resident concerns such as Homelessness, Alternative Transportation, Vision Plans for Downtown and Shoreline, etc.

Why Donate Now

Our neighborhood associations previously received funding from various City and Port grant programs. These programs will be virtually non-existent in the coming fiscal year. Our needs are small. We have no payroll because we have no paid staff. We rely on volunteers to provide all administrative functions. We have no rent thanks to the generosity of hyper-local businesses and HOAs who provide meeting space. However, we do have expenses for website and email hosting, membership acquisition and retention, miscellaneous project costs, marketing supplies, and various fees to maintain the DRC’s non-profit status.

The Downtown Residential Council (DRC)

The DRC provides a framework for the associations to leverage each other’s knowledge and resources to drive community development in their respective neighborhoods. The DRC is a registered mutual benefit non-profit corporation administered by a Board of Directors composed of volunteers appointed by each neighborhood association. The DRC enables the six Downtown neighborhood associations to share:

• Fundraising opportunities under a 501c3 umbrella
• Website and email hosting and support
• Contacts and professional knowledge
• Monthly social activities to build membership and create community.
• Financial support to new/revitalized neighborhood associations

The Neighborhoods

The associations encompass all Downtown residents, loosely bound on the south by the Pacific Ocean, to the north by 10th Street, on the west by the 710 freeway, and to the east by Alamitos Avenue. This area comprises six neighborhoods: East Village Arts District (EVADNA), North Pine Neighborhood Alliance (NPNA), Ocean Residents Community Association (ORCA), Promenade Area Residential Association (PARA), Willmore City Community Association (WCCA), and West Gateway Community Association (WGCA).
