Thanks to generous donors, Richard Hakluyt has been fully funded. Help the Queen Mary Heritage Foundation raise the final $5,800 to conserve The Flower Market, a 1936 Kenneth Shoesmith painting still aboard the RMS Queen Mary.
Nine decades of salt air, sunlight, and public exposure have taken a toll on the artwork still aboard the Queen Mary. Richard Hakluyt Recording the Voyages of the Elizabethan Sailors, a 1936 Kenneth Shoesmith painting, has been fully funded thanks to donor support. One work remains: The Flower Market, also by Shoesmith, still needs conservation treatment to stay on view for the next generation of visitors.
The Flower Market is this campaign's featured project, but preservation work aboard the Queen Mary never really stops. The Foundation has additional restoration and preservation projects in the works that we're not ready to announce yet. A gift to our General Foundation Fund gives us the flexibility to act as soon as the next one is ready to go.
The Queen Mary Heritage Foundation is proud to be the City of Long Beach's official nonprofit partner for the restoration and preservation of the RMS Queen Mary. Every gift funds approved restoration work directly, paying conservators and contractors for the hands-on work that protects this historic landmark, from the paintings and gold leaf work in her public rooms to the fixtures, woodwork, and interiors that make her one of the last surviving ocean liners of her era.
