When families are separated by the child welfare system, visitation is often the only bridge back to each other. But too many visitation rooms at DCFS look and feel exactly like what they are — institutional, sterile, and unwelcoming. For a parent and child trying to rebuild trust and connection, that setting can make an already hard moment even harder.
Reconcile Long Beach believes families deserve better than a room designed to process them. They deserve a space designed to hold them.
This Long Beach Gives, we're raising funds to transform DCFS visitation rooms into warm, welcoming spaces — places where families can play, talk, and simply be together without the room itself working against them. Comfortable seating, toys and activities for children, soft lighting, and thoughtful touches that say: this time together matters.
This work is part of our Mobilize pillar, where we equip churches and community partners with tangible ways to support families navigating the child welfare system. It's a small change with an outsized impact — because reunification isn't just a legal outcome; it's built one visit at a time.
Your gift helps us outfit these rooms and remind families that even in the middle of a hard season, they are not alone. Will you join us?
