Compassion in Action with Kryssie B

In 2023, I completed a two-week training to become a volunteer with the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Long Beach. That training gave me the tools to show up for people in crisis, to work alongside first responders safely, sit with families in shock, and offer what we call “compassion in action.”

Today, I serve as the Program Director for TIP Long Beach. Our team of about 20 volunteers is on call 24/7/365. We respond when tragedy strikes—after sudden deaths, suicides, child loss, overdoses, accidents, and more. We bring presence, calm, and practical support to neighbors experiencing the worst day of their lives.

What Your Gift Supports

• Training new volunteers: A single training academy costs about $2,000. This covers 55+ hours of classroom and field instruction so that volunteers are prepared to walk into heartbreaking situations with skill and compassion.

• Supplies on scene: Our cars carry blankets, waters, snacks, tissues, toys for children, and phone chargers—often provided out of volunteers’ own pockets.

• Volunteer wellness: The work is heavy. Donations also help us provide continuing education and mental health support for those who give their time.

A TIP volunteer arrives quietly after being called by first responders. We may help make phone calls, organize next steps, sit with children, or simply listen. Survivors often don’t remember our names. But they remember this: they weren’t alone.
